Maco RAIL (Reverse Action Inline) Inline Espag Window Lock Gearbox 22mm Backset UPVC High Security

The Reverse Action Inline (R.A.I.L) espagnolette offers the benefit of BS7950 Security Windows without the need to fit a shootbolt espagnolette. Based on a twin drivetrack the reverse operation pulls pairs of mushroom cams together into both sides of a standard striker plate for strength and security.

This design makes it suitable for both commercial and newbuild installation. Using the extensive range of existing Maco striker plates it is suitable for all types of Eurogroove profiles in Timber, Aluminium and PVCu. 16mm mild steel faceplate, silver passivated finish with diecast mazak lockcase, 43mm handle centres and 7mm sintered steel follower for strength.

Available in a range of lengths, all with a 22mm Backset.

An espagnolette multipoint Upvc window lock is the gearing part inside a window that a spindle drive handle operates. How to identify your window lock - which do I choose? The diagram in the gallery will help you identify the parts to measure:

  • Lets look at the things that matter;
  • A - Rail (rod) length - this is the total length of the rod from end to end.
  • B - The distance between screw hole centres. 43mm is the industry standard for almost all Espagnolette rods.
  • C - Cam Height - this is the height of the projecting locking part on the rod. Often called a mushroom cam due to its shape, it can be used to replace roller cams without problem.
  • D - The Backset - this is the horizontal distance from the face of the lock to the centre line of the handle screw fixing holes.
  • E - Rail width - this is the width of the rod from side to side and almost always 16mm.

All espagnolette multipoint locks are interchangeable regardless of make but it is essential that the measurements outlined above are correct. If a different make is substituted it is possible that the existing keeps will need to be adjusted to accommodate a slight difference in position of the new cams.

Rail Width:

Rail width - this is the width of the rod from side to side and almost always 16mm, but please check as you may need a slim 14mm rail offset Espag. The image in the gallery will show you where to measure.

Mushroom cams or rollers?

Mushroom Cams are standard on all our Espag locks, these can be used to replace roller cams without problem. Please see image in gallery.

Offset or Inline?

Now you must determine if you require an 'inline' or 'offset' lock. Again use the picture in the gallery to help you. An inline lock holds the gearbox in the centre of the rail whereas the offset lock is set to one side. These are listed separately on our categories page. The new locks will have adjustable mushroom cams that can be moved using an Allen key. If the handle is loose and slips into the closed position too easily you may need to increase compression by adjusting the cams. Likewise if the handle is difficult to close compression may need to be decreased. We advise regular care of your locks with the use of a maintenance spray to prolong life and maintain smooth action.
