Rim Cylinder Locks for Night Latches

Replacing the cylinder on a night latch? A rim cylinder is the round cylinder on the outside of a timber door that works a surface-fixed night latch (the type often called a Yale lock) on the inside. We stock the Avocet ABS high security rim cylinder, including a version keyed alike to your ABS code so it matches your other Avocet ABS locks.

Check the door thickness and the connecting bar before you order. Rim cylinders are fixed from inside with screws into the back of the cylinder.

How to Choose a Rim Cylinder

Door thickness

The cylinder and its connecting bar must suit the thickness of your door. Check the product listing for the range it fits.

Connecting bar

The flat bar on the back of the cylinder goes into the night latch. It is usually cut to length to suit the door.

Keyed alike

Choose the keyed-alike-to-code version to match your existing Avocet ABS cylinders.

Rim Cylinder Guide

Replacing a Rim Cylinder

From inside, remove the night latch case (usually a few screws), then undo the two screws that hold the cylinder to the door. Pull the old cylinder out from outside, fit the new one through the same hole, trim the connecting bar if needed, and refit the screws and latch. Check the key opens the latch before closing the door.
