Window hinge narrower than a standard one? Some windows, especially older ones, use slimline hinges with a narrow 15mm track instead of the usual 18mm.

Measure the metal track from end to end. Hinges usually come in steps of length, so match your old one.
Measure across the fixed track. Most uPVC window hinges use an 18mm track; slimline hinges use a narrower 15mm track.
Measure the height of the closed hinge. 13mm and 17mm are common.
Check whether the window opens from the side or from the top. Some hinges are made for one or the other.
Measure across the fixed track of your old hinge. About 15mm means slimline; about 18mm means standard. A standard hinge won't fit a slimline channel.
This is a two person job, because the window sash is heavy once it comes loose. Open the window and have someone hold the sash. Undo the screws holding the hinges to the sash and lift the sash away, then undo the screws holding the hinges to the frame. Fit the new hinges in the same place, refit the sash, and check the window closes and locks evenly before tightening every screw.
Measure the track width. Slimline hinges have a 15mm track.
