Half-Euro Cylinder Locks

Half Euro Cylinder Locks

Need a lock that works from one side only? A half euro cylinder has a key on one side and no cylinder on the other. It is used on garage doors, roller shutter doors, store rooms, key switches and other doors that are only locked from outside. We stock the WRS garage door half cylinder, the Mila ProLinea BreakSafe half euro cylinder and a Mila BreakSafe half thumb turn cylinder with no key.

Check the length and the cam position of your old half cylinder before you order. For doors locked from both sides, see our euro cylinder locks.

How to Measure a Half Euro Cylinder

Length

Remove the cylinder and measure from the centre of the fixing screw hole to the end of the cylinder.

Cam position

Note where the cam (the turning part) sits and which way it turns, so it works the lock the same way.

Key or thumb turn

Most half cylinders have a key. A half thumb turn cylinder has a turn knob instead, for doors locked from one side without a key.

Half Euro Cylinder Guide

Where Are Half Euro Cylinders Used?

Half euro cylinders are common on up-and-over and roller shutter garage doors, fire exit and store room doors, and key switches, where a lock is only needed on one side.

Replacing a Half Euro Cylinder

Undo the fixing screw, turn the key slightly so the cam lines up with the cylinder body, and slide the cylinder out. Fit the new one the same way and check it operates the lock before closing the door.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a half euro cylinder?

A euro profile cylinder with only one side, usually key-operated, for locks that only need working from one side.

Can I use a half euro cylinder on a front door?

Not usually. Front doors need to be locked from both sides, so they use a full euro cylinder or a thumb turn cylinder.
