How to Choose a Replacement uPVC Door Panel
Flat uPVC door panels are commonly used as infill panels in the lower section of residential doors and conservatory doors, and can also replace suitable glazed or solid infill sections where the frame accepts the same panel thickness. The new panel needs to match the space available in the existing glazing rebate and be trimmed to the required width and height.
The most important checks are the finished width, finished height and thickness. JCP's flat white panels are supplied at 750mm × 750mm and are available in 20mm, 24mm and 28mm thicknesses, depending on the product selected. Always confirm the thickness of the panel or unit being replaced before ordering.
Standard or Reinforced Door Panel?
Standard flat panels provide a straightforward replacement where you need a solid white infill panel in place of an old damaged, cracked or discoloured panel.
Reinforced flat panels include an internal 4mm MDF reinforcement layer together with a foam insulating core. The reinforced construction adds rigidity and impact resistance, making it a useful option where a stronger replacement panel is preferred.
Both types are designed to be trimmed to size during installation. JCP does not currently offer a cut-to-size service, so check that your required finished dimensions fit within the 750mm × 750mm blank before ordering.
How to Measure a uPVC Door Panel
- Check the existing panel size. Where possible, remove the glazing beads and measure the old panel itself rather than guessing from the visible area.
- Measure the width and height. Check at more than one point because older door frames may not be perfectly square.
- Measure the thickness carefully. This is critical because the replacement must suit the existing frame, beads and gaskets. Common JCP options are 20mm, 24mm and 28mm.
- Make sure the finished size is within 750mm × 750mm. The blank must be large enough to cover your required cut size.
Measure before cutting. Once a panel has been cut it cannot be returned to its original size. Leave the protective film in place while marking and cutting where practical, and use suitable fine-tooth cutting tools for a clean edge.
Half and Quarter uPVC Door Panels
Many uPVC doors have a glazed upper section with a solid panel below the midrail. Our Half & Quarter Door Panels are flat white 750mm × 750mm blanks intended for this type of replacement work and other smaller infill areas. They are useful for replacing a damaged lower panel, covering a redundant pet-flap opening, or changing a suitable glazed section to a solid panel for increased privacy.
Can a Flat Panel Replace Glass?
In many suitable uPVC and conservatory frames, a flat panel can replace an existing double-glazed unit provided the panel thickness is compatible with the frame, beads and glazing system. The panel should be correctly supported and packed when fitted, just as the original infill unit was.
