Window handle broken, loose, stiff or won't lock? We stock replacement window handles for uPVC and double glazed windows: inline and cranked espag handles, cockspur handles, tilt & turn handles, monkey tail handles and lockable window handles, in white, black, chrome, gold and other finishes. Brands include Yale, greenteQ, Mila, Avocet, Fab & Fix, Era, Hoppe and Securit.
Window handle replacement is usually a five-minute job with a screwdriver. Check the handle type, screw centres and spindle length using the guide below, and the new handle will fit like the old one.

Cadenza window handlesEra Cadenza rangeThe distance between the centres of the two fixing screws. 43mm is the most common on uPVC espag handles, but measure yours rather than assuming.
Remove the handle and measure the square spindle from the base of the handle to the tip. Too short and it won't engage the lock; too long and the handle won't sit flat.
7mm square is standard on most uPVC espag handles. Some timber and specialist windows use different spindles, so check before you order.
Note whether the lever sits straight over the spindle or is offset, and which way it opens. Cockspur and cranked handles are often left- or right-handed.
Open the window and turn the handle to the open position. Lift or slide the small cover caps on the handle base to reveal the two screws, undo them and pull the handle straight out. Fit the new handle in the same position, refit the screws and caps, then close the window and check it locks properly before you rely on it.
If the new handle turns but the window still won't lock, the fault is usually the locking mechanism inside the edge of the window rather than the handle. See our window locks for replacement espag and shootbolt mechanisms.
Lockable (locking) window handles have a key or push-button lock, so the window can't be opened from inside without it. They are a good choice for ground floor windows and for child safety. On a window that is also a fire escape, keep the key close to the window so it can be opened quickly.
Choose white window handles to match standard uPVC frames, or black, chrome, gold and other finishes for coloured or foiled windows. The finish doesn't change the fit, so match the type, screw centres and spindle first. Our range includes Yale Quartus and Virage, greenteQ Alpha, Mila ProLinea, Hero and Smart Spindle, Avocet Affinity Plus and WMS, Fab & Fix Connoisseur, Era Cadenza and Hoppe Atlanta. Matching handles for several windows are also available in our bulk buy window handles.
Not completely. Many espag handles share 43mm screw centres and a 7mm spindle, and "universal" handles are reversible for left or right opening, but you still need the right type and spindle length for your window.
Yes, if the lock is working. If the handle is cracked, loose or won't stay in position, a new handle is usually all you need. If the handle turns freely and the window won't lock, the locking mechanism needs replacing.
An inline handle has its lever centred over the spindle. A cranked (offset) handle is angled away from the window to give clearance from the frame. Replace like with like.
No. A screwdriver is usually all you need. Measure the spindle with the old handle removed.
Identify the handle type, then match the screw centres and spindle length. If you're not sure, send us a photo through our part identification service.
