Wedge Gasket

Wedge Gasket for uPVC Windows & Doors

Glass rattling, gasket shrunk back from the corners, or rain getting in round the glass? Wedge gasket is the glazing seal pushed in between the glass and the glazing bead (or frame) on many uPVC and aluminium double glazed windows and doors. It packs the glass tight and seals it. We stock Reddiplex corded, incremental, Reddiglaze, Reddilock and tear-off wedge gaskets, plus sample packs to match your profile.

The correct profile and thickness matter: too thin and it won't seal or hold the glass; too thick and it won't go in. Match the existing gasket, or test with a sample pack first.

Wedge Gasket Identification & Fitting Guide

How to Identify Your Wedge Gasket

Take out a short piece

Pull a short length of the old wedge gasket out from between the glass and the bead and look at its cross-section.

Measure the gap

Measure the gap between the glass and the glazing bead. This sets the thickness of wedge you need.

Compare the profile

Check the shape of the fixing leg and the sealing face against the product diagrams. Reddiplex profiles are identified by R-numbers, such as R6503 or R3231.

Use a sample pack

If several profiles look similar, a sample pack lets you test them in the frame before buying a full length.

How to Fit Wedge Gasket

With the glass and beads in place, start at a corner and push the wedge gasket into the gap between the glass and the bead (or frame), working along each side. Don't stretch it as you go: stretched gasket shrinks back later and leaves gaps at the corners. Leave a little extra at each end so the joints are tight, and trim neatly.

Wedge Gasket Sample Packs

Test before you order a full length: corded wedge sample pack, incremental wedge sample pack, wedge gasket sample pack, Reddilock sample pack and tear-off wedge sample pack.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is wedge gasket used for?

It is a glazing gasket that wedges the double glazed unit in the frame and seals between the glass and the glazing bead, keeping water and draughts out.

Why has my wedge gasket shrunk at the corners?

Older gasket can shrink with age and sunlight, especially if it was stretched when fitted. Replace it with the same profile, fitted without stretching.

Is wedge gasket the same as the weather seal round the opening window?

No. Wedge gasket seals the glass. The seal round the opening sash is a weather seal, usually a bubble or flipper gasket. See our gaskets and seals range.

How much wedge gasket do I need?

Measure round the glass on each side of the window or door that needs it and add a little extra for the corners and trimming.
