Replacing the handle on a wooden casement window? Timber windows usually use a surface-fixed casement fastener rather than a uPVC espag handle. We stock the Securit locking timber casement handle, a lockable fastener for wooden windows.
Pair it with a matching casement stay to hold the window open securely.
Check which way the window opens. Some casement fasteners are handed; compare with the product listing.
Check the new handle and its keep cover the old screw holes, or fill them before fitting.
A locking handle stops the fastener being opened without the key, adding security on ground floor windows.
Fit the handle to the opening sash and the keep (the plate it closes into) to the frame, using wood screws. Close the window and check the handle pulls the sash tight against the frame before tightening the screws fully.
Only if the timber window has an espag locking mechanism. Most traditional timber casements use a surface-fixed fastener like this one.
Most timber casements have a stay along the bottom to hold the window open. See our casement stays.
Other window handle types: espag, cockspur, tilt & turn, casement stays, Cadenza. Or browse all window handles.
