uPVC door dropped, catching on the frame or letting in a draught? Worn or loose flag hinges are a common cause. Flag hinges are the most common hinge on uPVC front, back and French doors.
We stock replacement flag hinges from Avocet (Triad and Mini Triad), ERA (Nexus Laird 85mm and 100mm, and Maxim), Yale Neon, Trojan Patriot Plus, Mila Evolution and Schuring M-Tec II, plus Trojan Patriot Plus hinge packers.
Measure the length of the hinge body. For example, the ERA Nexus Laird comes in 85mm and 100mm.
Photograph the hinge open so both flags (the door part and the frame part) can be seen. Compare the shape with the product photos.
Note the number and position of the screw holes on both flags.
Look for a brand or code on the hinge, such as Triad, Nexus or Patriot. It is the quickest way to find a match.
A flag hinge has two flat leaves, or flags. One screws to the frame and one to the edge of the door, with the knuckle between them. Most modern flag hinges are 3D adjustable.
Before you replace a hinge, check whether it just needs adjusting. Most 3D hinges adjust with an Allen key for height, side to side and compression; the screws are usually under cover caps. The method varies by model, so check the instructions for your hinge. Replace hinges that are cracked, badly worn or won't hold their adjustment.
Some flag hinges are made for one door system. For example, the Avocet SY3D Mini Triad is made for Synseal doors. Check the listing against your door.
No. They differ in length, flag shape, fixing holes and adjustment. Match your old hinge.
Usually three. The Mila Evolution hinge comes as a pack of three.
Packers sit behind the hinge to change its position. The Trojan packers are for Trojan Patriot Plus hinges; packers are not universal.
