Door hard to lock, latch not catching, or the handle stiff when you lift it? The fault may be the keeps on the door frame rather than the lock. Keeps (also called striker plates or latch plates) are the metal plates the latch, deadbolt, hooks and rollers lock into. We stock replacement uPVC door keeps from Yale (Lockmaster and AutoEngage), Avocet Trivalent and GU Ferco, plus shootbolt keeps for French and patio doors.
Keeps must suit your lock brand and locking points, and line up with the hooks, rollers and latch on the door.
The keep for the latch and deadbolt in the middle of the lock. Universal centre keeps fit many locks; check the dimensions.
One-piece keeps that cover all the locking points, such as Avocet Trivalent 2 hook 2 roller or 2 hook 4 roller keeps.
Keeps are often made to suit a lock, such as Yale Lockmaster or AutoEngage. Match the brand where you can.
French and patio doors use keeps at the top and bottom for the shootbolts on the second door.
Many keeps can be adjusted to pull the door in tighter or loosen it. If the door has dropped, adjust the hinges first so the hooks and latch line up with the keeps. Replace keeps that are cracked, worn or no longer line up with a new lock.
Note the position of the old keep, unscrew it from the frame and fit the new one in the same place. Close the door gently and check the latch, hooks and rollers engage smoothly before tightening the screws fully.
Not if the new lock is the same type and the keeps are in good condition. If the locking points are different, the keeps must match the new lock.

Some are, but many suit a particular lock. Check the dimensions and the locking points before ordering.
