Intumescent seals are part of a fire door's tested design. Check the door maker's instructions for the seal type and size.
Some seals are for fire only. Fire and smoke seals have a brush or fin to help stop cold smoke.
Measure round the door or frame. Check the strip length on the listing.
Match the width of the groove or the original seal.
Under normal conditions they look like a plain strip. In a fire, the heat makes the material expand and fill the gap between the door and the frame.
Fire doors protect lives. If you are unsure which seal your fire door needs, check with the door manufacturer or a fire safety professional.
Fitting a seal does not make an ordinary door a fire door. Seals must suit a certified fire door.
