Schlosser Technik Apto 70PZ Sprung Door Handle Pair — 180mm Screw Centres

Replace worn Ferco door handles with this sprung 70PZ lever set — 180mm screw centres, 7mm spindle, salt spray tested and available in three finishes.

Schlosser Technik Apto 70PZ Sprung Door Handle Pair — if your existing uPVC door handle has gone floppy, stiff or corroded, replacing the handle alone is far cheaper than replacing the door or the lock. This patent-protected sprung lever handle set is designed specifically for Ferco multipoint door locks, with 70mm PZ centres (the distance from the centre of the handle spindle to the centre of the cylinder keyhole) and 180mm fixing screw centres. Both measurements must match your existing handle for the set to fit. Universal handing means one set covers both left-hand and right-hand opening doors.

Manufactured from durable zinc alloy with a hard-wearing colour co-ordinated finish, the Apto handle has been corrosion tested to 480 hours in line with BS EN 1670 and cycle tested to 50,000 operations. Internal spring cassettes return the lever to a level 90-degree position every time it is released, so the handle keeps its tidy appearance rather than drooping over time. Available in Polished Chrome, Polished PVD Gold and White to co-ordinate with your existing door furniture.

Key Benefits for uPVC Door Owners with Ferco Locks:

  • 70PZ Spacing for Ferco Locks – The 70mm PZ centre measurement matches Ferco 4.28, 5.28 and 6.35 multipoint locks, so the spindle and cylinder line up with your existing lock without drilling new holes or modifying the door.
  • 180mm Fixing Screw Centres – The screw holes sit 180mm apart, centre to centre. If your current handle matches this spacing, the new set drops straight onto the existing holes — no filling, no new drilling, no visible marks on the door.
  • Sprung Lever Action Keeps Handles Level – Twin spring cassettes return both levers to a horizontal 90-degree position when released, solving the drooping, sagging handle problem that makes an otherwise smart door look neglected.
  • Fits Left and Right Hand Doors – Universal handing removes the guesswork over handing when ordering, so there's no risk of receiving a handle that operates the wrong way round.
  • 480-Hour Salt Spray Tested Finish – Corrosion tested to 480 hours based on BS EN 1670, giving genuine resistance to rain, damp and coastal air, so the finish holds up on an exposed front door rather than pitting within a season.
  • 50,000 Cycle Tested Mechanism – Independently cycle tested to 50,000 operations, which represents years of everyday household use — the difference between a one-off repair and replacing a cheap handle again in eighteen months.
  • Two Screw Lengths Supplied – Both 65mm and 75mm colour co-ordinated fixing screws are included, covering doors from 58mm to 72mm thick, so you have the correct fixing to hand regardless of your door's thickness.
  • Zinc Alloy Construction – Solid zinc alloy gives the lever real weight and rigidity in the hand, resisting the flex and wobble that develops in thin pressed or plastic-cored alternatives.
  • Three Co-ordinating Finishes – Choose Polished Chrome, Polished PVD Gold or White.
  • Straightforward DIY Replacement – Supplied complete with a 150mm 7mm spindle and both sets of screws, this is a screwdriver-only job for most people, with no locksmith call-out charge.

Please check both critical measurements before ordering. The two you must confirm are the PZ centre (70mm) — measured from the centre of the square spindle hole to the centre of the cylinder keyhole — and the screw hole centres (180mm), measured centre to centre between the two fixing screws. These are two entirely separate measurements and both must match. Overall backplate length and lever length are far less critical; a slightly longer or shorter handle will make no practical difference. All measurements are approximate — please also refer to the diagrams in the image gallery. If you are unsure which size you need, please contact us and we'll be happy to help.

Pro Tips:

Pro Tip: Don't confuse the 70PZ figure with the screw centres — this catches people out constantly. The PZ measurement (70mm here) is spindle centre to cylinder centre, while the fixing centres (180mm here) is the gap between the two screw holes. A handle can have the right PZ and still be unusable because the screw spacing differs. Before ordering, remove one handle, lay it face down and measure both distances with a steel rule. While the handle is off, check the faceplate running the full height of the door edge — Ferco 4.28, 5.28 and 6.35 locks are stamped there, which confirms compatibility at a glance.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Will this handle fit my uPVC door?
It will fit if two measurements on your existing handle match. First, the PZ centre must be 70mm — that's from the centre of the spindle hole to the centre of the cylinder keyhole. Second, the fixing screw centres must be 180mm apart. Both need to match; a 70PZ handle with different screw spacing will not line up. This set is designed for Ferco 4.28, 5.28 and 6.35 multipoint locks, identifiable by the stamp on the metal faceplate running the full height of the door edge.

What does sprung mean, and how do I know if I need a sprung handle?
Sprung means a return spring is built into the handle so the lever springs back to horizontal after you let go. To check what you have, remove your existing handle and operate the lever — if it flops down and stays there with the handle off the door, it is unsprung; if it springs back, it is sprung. An unsprung handle can safely be replaced with a sprung handle, but if your existing handles are sprung they must be replaced with sprung handles. Fitting an unsprung handle where a sprung one was will leave the levers drooping.

How long will this door handle last outdoors?
The finish is corrosion tested to 480 hours based on BS EN 1670, which is a salt spray test measuring resistance to damp, rain and salt-laden air — relevant if you're in a coastal or exposed location. The mechanism is separately cycle tested to 50,000 operations, representing many years of normal household use. Please note this handle is supplied with corrosion and cycle test data only; no PAS 24 or Secured by Design security accreditation is claimed for it.

Do I need any special tools, or does it come with everything I need?
For most people it is a screwdriver-only job. The set includes the 150mm 7mm spindle, both spring cassettes and two sets of fixing screws in 65mm and 75mm lengths, so you can pick the correct length for your door thickness anywhere between 58mm and 72mm. Remove the old handles, feed the spindle through the lock's spindle hole, offer up both levers and fix through with the appropriate screws.

Why Choose the Schlosser Technik Apto 70PZ Door Handle?

A drooping or seized door handle is one of the most visible signs of a tired front door — and one of the cheapest faults to put right properly. The Schlosser Technik Apto pairs a patent-protected design built specifically around Ferco multipoint locks with genuine tested durability: 480 hours of salt spray resistance and 50,000 cycles of mechanical testing behind it. The zinc alloy body has real substance in the hand, and the twin spring cassettes keep both levers sitting level for the life of the handle. It's the difference between a repair that lasts and one you'll be redoing next year.

JCP Hardware has supplied uPVC door and window hardware for over 30 years, and getting the fit right first time is what we do. Measure your PZ centre and your screw centres, choose your finish, and order with confidence — if you're at all unsure which handle you need, send us your measurements and we'll confirm before you buy.
