What do I need to check before ordering a handle?
Handle Screw Hole Fixing Centres:
Fortunately most tilt and turn handles are made to industry standards with 43mm between the screw hole centres, therefore it really doesn't matter if you choose a style that's different to your existing handle, as long as the handle centres measure 43mm these handles will fit.
Spindle Length:
The spindle is measured from the base of the handle to the end of the spindle. (Please see measuring diagram).
How to fit a Tilt and Turn handle:
- Most Tilt and Turn handles can be fitted without too much difficulty. The fixing screws will be obscured with either cover caps or, in most cases, a cover plate.
- First turn the handle horizontally 90° then remove cover caps with a sharp object or slightly lift and turn the cover plate to reveal the screw fixing positions.
- With a screwdriver unfasten the screws to remove the handle. Measure the old handle spindle against your new handle and using a hacksaw cut the spindle of your new handle to the same length.
- Keeping the new handle in the same position as the old one (90° Horizontal) simply refit the new handle and tighten the screws, returning the handle downwards into the locked position once more.
