Description
JCP Composite Door Restrictor Arm Stay 258mm Stainless Steel – Adjustable Low-Profile Door Stay
Hold your door open exactly where you want it – no wedges, no propping, no fuss.
The JCP Composite Door Restrictor Arm Stay is a purpose-designed, low-profile door restrictor that holds your composite door securely in the open position while restricting the opening angle to approximately 90°. Manufactured from solid stainless steel for lasting corrosion resistance, this non-handed restrictor suits doors fitted with a standard Eurogroove and an approximate 4mm air gap – and once installed, it remains completely hidden from view while the door is closed.
Whether you're airing the house on a warm afternoon, carrying shopping through the front door, or simply want a controlled opening that protects your walls and hinges, this adjustable stay delivers reliable performance. The stainless steel construction stands up to British weather year after year, while the adjustable friction control lets you dial in exactly how much resistance you need. Suitable for compatible composite, uPVC, aluminium and timber door profiles, it's a straightforward DIY upgrade that takes minutes to fit.
Important: The Pressed Section Is Intentional – Not a Dent
Please Read Before Fitting: The sliding track is manufactured with an intentional pressed or dimpled section on its reverse side, as shown in the product photographs. Although this may look like a dent, it is an essential design feature and not damage or a manufacturing fault. The pressed section creates the friction within the sliding mechanism, which is precisely what allows the restrictor to hold your door in the open position. Do not attempt to flatten or straighten this section, as doing so will affect the operation of the restrictor.
Please Don't Test It By Hand: Many customers try sliding the arm along the track by hand before fitting, find it won't travel past the pressed section, and assume the product is faulty. This is completely normal. The resistance you feel by hand is exactly the friction the restrictor is designed to produce – and hand pressure alone simply isn't enough to overcome it. Once correctly fitted, the weight and leverage of the door will move the restrictor past the pressed section and through to approximately 90° with ease.
Key Benefits:
- Holds Your Door Open Securely – The engineered friction section within the sliding track grips the arm and keeps your door exactly where you leave it, so you can carry shopping, move furniture or ventilate a room without the door swinging shut behind you.
- Adjustable Friction Control – Fine-tune the resistance to suit your door's weight and your own preference, giving you a smooth, controlled action rather than a fixed one-size-fits-all setting.
- Solid Stainless Steel Construction – Built from corrosion-resistant stainless steel, this restrictor withstands rain, damp and temperature swings without rusting, seizing or discolouring – ideal for exposed front and back doors.
- Discreet Low-Profile Design – At just 18mm wide and 8.5mm high, the unit sits neatly within the door and frame, remaining completely invisible when the door is closed and barely noticeable when it's open. Your door's appearance stays exactly as intended.
- Restricts Opening to Approximately 90° – A controlled stop protects adjacent walls, radiators and furniture from door handle damage, and prevents the door being flung wide against its hinges.
- Non-Handed for Fitting Flexibility – One product suits both left-hand and right-hand hinged doors, so there's no risk of ordering the wrong handing and no need to keep two variants in stock.
- No Manual Disengagement Required – Simply pull the door closed and the restrictor releases naturally.
- Straightforward DIY Installation – With clear recommended fitting positions and a simple two-part design, most competent DIYers can fit this restrictor with basic hand tools in well under an hour.

Pro Tips:
Pro Tip: Before drilling anything, close the door and check your air gap with a feeler gauge or a folded strip of card – you're looking for approximately 4mm. Then dry-fit both parts with the door open and swing it through its full arc to confirm the arm tracks cleanly and stops at around 90°. Because fixing screws aren't included, choose stainless steel screws to match the restrictor: mixing steel types on an exposed door invites galvanic corrosion and staining. Finally, set the friction adjustment lightly at first and increase it gradually until the door holds firmly – over-tightening from the start puts unnecessary strain on the mechanism.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Is the dent on the back of the sliding track a fault?
No – and this is the single most common question we receive about this product. The pressed or dimpled section on the reverse of the track is deliberately manufactured into the component. It creates the internal friction that allows the restrictor to grip the arm and hold your door open. Without it, the door would simply swing freely. Please do not attempt to flatten, straighten or "repair" this section, as doing so will stop the restrictor working as intended.
The arm won't slide past the dented section when I move it by hand – is it jammed?
No, it isn't jammed and it isn't faulty. This is by far the most common reason customers contact us, and it happens because the restrictor is being tested by hand before it's fitted. The pressed section is deliberately there to create resistance, and your hand simply can't generate enough force to push the arm past it. Once the restrictor is properly installed, the weight and leverage of the door do the work for you – the arm travels past the pressed section smoothly and opens through to approximately 90° with very little effort. Please fit the restrictor to the door and frame first, then assess how it operates.
Will this fit my door?
This restrictor suits compatible composite, uPVC, aluminium and timber doors that have a standard Eurogroove and an approximate 4mm air gap between door and frame. Because door profiles vary considerably between manufacturers, we strongly recommend measuring your air gap and confirming you have a suitable Eurogroove before ordering. The overall length of 258mm and the slim 18mm × 8.5mm profile also need clearance along the top of the door, so it's worth checking that too.
Are fixing screws supplied?
Fixing screws are not included, which allows you to select the correct screw length and type for your specific door and frame construction. We'd recommend stainless steel screws to match the restrictor's material and maintain corrosion resistance over the long term.
Will it stop my door slamming in the wind?
The restrictor is designed to control the opening angle and hold the door in position during normal, everyday use. It is not a wind-resistant door stay and should not be relied upon to prevent slamming in strong gusts or unpredictable high winds. Please take extra care in exposed conditions.
