Description

ASEC Garage Door Defender Security Lock – Puck Padlock & Fixings (Black)

Secured by Design (Police Preferred) and Sold Secure Bronze tested – the ASEC Garage Door Defender stops tilting and up-and-over garage doors being forced open.

ASEC Garage Door Defender is a heavy-duty garage door lock built to stop tilting and up-and-over garage doors from being opened by force. If you've ever worried about an ageing garage lock or wondered how exposed your tools, bikes or car really are, this defender bar physically blocks the door from lifting once it's fitted and locked. It's supplied complete with a 5-pin puck-style padlock, two keys, two ground security bolts and protective end caps, so there's nothing extra to source. Fitted correctly into solid concrete, it turns a vulnerable tilting door into a genuine deterrent to opportunist thieves.

Manufactured from steel with a durable black finish, the Garage Door Defender carries Sold Secure Domestic Buildings (Bronze) accreditation and is Secured by Design – Police Preferred Specification, so you're getting a level of tested, recognised security rather than a generic bar. Protective end caps guard against knocks and weathering, helping the defender keep working long after cheaper alternatives have seized up or rusted through.

Secured by Design

Police Preferred Specification – officially recognised by UK police security experts.

Sold Secure Bronze

Independently tested to the Sold Secure Domestic Buildings (Bronze) standard.

Key Benefits for Garage Door Owners:

  • Police Preferred Security Rating – Secured by Design accreditation means this garage door defender meets standards set by UK police security specialists, giving you genuine peace of mind rather than a false sense of security.
  • Sold Secure Bronze Tested – Independently tested to the Sold Secure Domestic Buildings (Bronze) standard, so you know the lock has actually been put through its paces before it reaches your garage.
  • Physically Stops Tilting Doors Opening – Fitted in front of the door, the defender blocks the door lifting or tilting outward, closing off one of the most common weak points on older garages.
  • Saves You Replacing the Whole Door – Upgrading security here costs a fraction of fitting a new garage door, making this a cost-effective way to shore up an ageing or basic factory lock.
  • Straightforward DIY Fit – Installs with a standard concrete drill, drill bits and a torque wrench – no specialist tools or locksmith required, so you get the satisfaction of fitting it yourself.
  • Steel Construction – Steel body with protective end caps and a black finish.
  • 5-Pin Puck Padlock Included – A 10mm shackle diameter puck-style padlock and two keys are supplied as standard, so there's no separate padlock to buy or match up.
  • Ground-Anchored for Real Strength – Secured with two M10 x 70mm ground security bolts set into solid concrete, giving the defender the holding strength to actually resist force rather than just look secure.

Pro Tips:

Pro Tip: Before you drill, position the defender unlocked with the security bar clear and open the garage door fully to confirm it doesn't catch on the padlock lug or base. Getting this check right first saves you re-drilling if the position needs shifting slightly.

Fitting Instructions: Download the full fitting guide (PDF) – includes recommended fitting positions, friction adjustment and troubleshooting.

Quick Installation Summary:

  • Position the defender in front of the closed garage door and check the door opens fully without fouling it.
  • Use the base plate as a template to mark your two fixing points – note the plate has three pre-drilled holes, but only two are needed, so choose whichever pair best avoids obstructions.
  • Drill with a 10mm bit to approx. 10mm depth, then re-drill with a 16mm concrete bit to approx. 90mm depth, clearing all dust and debris.
  • Insert the ground security bolts through the base plate and tap the plate down flush with the concrete.
  • Tighten both fixings evenly with a torque wrench to 25–30 lbf-ft (33–40 Nm) – do not over-tighten.
  • Fit the security bar/lug, lock the puck padlock, then test by operating the garage door several times with the defender fitted.

Full step-by-step instructions with tool requirements are included in the box.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Will the ASEC Garage Door Defender fit my garage door?
It's designed for tilting and up-and-over garage doors and is fixed to the concrete floor immediately in front of the door, rather than to the door itself, so it works across most tilting door types. It must be anchored into sound, solid concrete to function correctly.

Do I need a professional to install this garage door lock?
No – it's designed for straightforward DIY fitting with a concrete drill, 10mm and 16mm drill bits, a hammer and a torque wrench. Most people can fit it in under an hour by following the included instructions.

What security ratings does this garage defender have?
It's Secured by Design accredited (Police Preferred Specification) and tested to Sold Secure Domestic Buildings (Bronze), two of the most recognised security standards for UK domestic hardware.

Can I fit this if my garage entrance is tarmac rather than concrete?
The fixings must go into sound, solid concrete to provide proper security – tarmac alone isn't sufficient. If your garage entrance is tarmac, you'll need a suitable concrete base installed for the fixings first.

How many keys come with the padlock?
Two keys are supplied with the 5-pin puck-style padlock, along with the padlock itself, two ground security bolts and protective end caps.

Why Choose the ASEC Garage Door Defender?

Tilting and up-and-over garage doors are a common target for opportunist thieves precisely because their locks are often basic. The ASEC Garage Door Defender addresses that weak point directly with Police Preferred, Sold Secure-tested hardware that's built from solid steel and designed to be fitted properly into concrete, not just bolted on as an afterthought. It's the kind of upgrade that protects tools, bikes and vehicles without the cost or disruption of replacing the whole door.
