How to Choose a Replacement Door Handle
Replacement door handles can look very similar while having different measurements, so it is important to measure your existing handle before ordering. The main measurements to check are the PZ centre and screw fixing centres.
- PZ centre: Measure from the centre of the square handle spindle to the centre of the key cylinder.
- Screw fixing centres: Measure from the centre of the top fixing screw to the centre of the bottom fixing screw.
- Backplate size: Check the overall length and width, especially if the new handle needs to cover marks left by the old one.
- Handle type: Check whether you need lever/lever, lever/pad, offset or another handle arrangement.
92mm PZ is one of the most common measurements used on uPVC and composite doors, but many older and specialist multipoint locks use different sizes. Matching the PZ alone does not guarantee that the replacement handle will fit, so always check the screw centres as well.

Lever/Lever and Lever/Pad Door Handles
Lever/lever handles have an operating lever on both sides of the door and are one of the most common configurations used on uPVC and composite doors.
Lever/pad handles normally have an operating lever on the inside and a pad on the outside. Depending on the lock and handle design, this can restrict normal entry from outside without using the key.
Some multipoint locks use offset or split-spindle handles. If your existing handles have different internal and external lever positions, compare the product measurements carefully before ordering.
Repair and Replacement Handles for Older Doors
Older uPVC and composite door handles can become obsolete, particularly where the original fixing centres are unusual. In these situations, an adjustable or repair handle may provide a practical replacement without changing the complete multipoint locking system.

How do I measure a uPVC door handle?

Are uPVC door handles left or right handed?
Many replacement uPVC door handles are reversible and can be used on either hand of door, but this is not universal. Always check the individual product specification before ordering.
Will a 92mm PZ handle fit my door?
Only if your existing lock also has a 92mm PZ measurement and the other important dimensions, particularly the screw fixing centres, are compatible. Two handles can both be 92mm PZ while having completely different fixing positions.
What is the difference between PZ and screw centres?
The PZ measurement is the distance from the centre of the handle spindle to the centre of the key cylinder. Screw centres are the distance between the centres of the fixing screws. They are separate measurements and both should be checked before ordering.
What if my original door handle is obsolete?
