Description

Mila Twin Spindle Multipoint Lock Gearbox 35mm Backset 92PZ — Coldseal, Swiftframe & Mila Multilock Replacement

Replace a failed uPVC door lock gearbox for a fraction of the cost — genuine Mila quality, fits Coldseal, Swiftframe & Mila Multilock doors.

Mila Twin Spindle Door Lock Gearbox is the most common cause of a failed multipoint lock — and in the vast majority of cases, replacing just the gearbox is all that's needed to restore full operation. This genuine Mila-manufactured unit is a direct replacement for the gearbox fitted to Coldseal, Swiftframe, and Mila Multilock uPVC door systems, saving you the time and expense of replacing the entire lock. It is non-handed, so it fits both left and right-handed doors, and its twin spindle design means it will also operate doors currently running a single spindle gearbox.

Sourced directly from UK supply chains, this is a genuine Mila part — not one of the inferior copies that have become increasingly common in the market. Counterfeit gearboxes may appear identical and are often sold at a lower price, but they frequently fail prematurely, sometimes causing the door to become inoperable and resulting in far greater cost than a genuine replacement would have. When you order from JCP Hardware, you can be confident you are receiving an authentic gearbox.

Key Benefits for uPVC Door Lock Repair:

  • Restore a Failed Lock Without Replacing the Whole Mechanism – In most multipoint lock failures, the gearbox is the only component at fault. Swapping just this part is a straightforward repair that avoids the cost of a full lock replacement, saving you money and getting your door back in full working order quickly.
  • Genuine Mila Part — Not a Copy – Inferior copies of this gearbox are widely available, often at a lower price, but they carry a significant risk of premature failure. This is an authentic Mila-manufactured component sourced from UK stock, giving you confidence that the repair will last.
  • Non-Handed — Fits Left and Right-Handed Doors – The latch is fully adaptable and requires no modification to fit either a left or right-handed door, reducing the risk of ordering the wrong part and simplifying installation.
  • Replaces Both Single and Twin Spindle Versions – If you are unsure whether your current gearbox is a single or twin spindle model, choose this version. It is designed to operate both configurations, making it the safer choice when you cannot confirm your existing setup with certainty.
  • Both Spindles Sprung for Reliable Handle Operation – With both the 92mm and 70mm spindles independently sprung, handles return positively after operation, reducing wear on the mechanism and maintaining smooth, reliable performance over time.
  • Wide Compatibility Across Three Lock Families – Compatible with Mila Multilock, Coldseal, and Swiftframe multipoint locks. The faceplate may be stamped with any of these names, but the door gear is identical across all three — this is the correct gearbox for all of them.
  • Designed for Lever/Lever and Lever/Pad Handle Setups – Works with the most common uPVC door handle configurations, so there is no need to change your existing handles when fitting the replacement gearbox.

Pro Tips:

Pro Tip: This gearbox is commonly confused with the Mila 4500 door lock gearbox — the two look very similar but are not interchangeable. The key difference is in the position of the linkage points. Before ordering, compare your existing gearbox against the dimensional drawings shown in the product gallery to confirm you have the correct part. If your gearbox has an offset crank linkage, refer to guidance below on how to accommodate this during fitting.

Package Contents:

  • 1 × Mila Twin Spindle uPVC Door Lock Gearbox Case 35mm (Part 047201)

Gearbox Compatibility Note:

Older gearboxes often had cranked linkage points in the centre of the lock case, at the top, bottom, or both. The new replacement gearbox is only available with the linkage point flush to the side, but the positions are otherwise the same, so it can still be fitted with a simple alteration to the under-faceplate linkage.

Some older Mila gearboxes used cranked connectors, but these are no longer manufactured. The new Mila gearbox can still be used by cutting a slot in the metal beneath the faceplate with a junior hacksaw and file.

On 3-part locks, the bottom link was often cranked. On full-length locks, the bottom link was often flush and the top cranked, although this can vary.

Fitting tip: On some older deadbolt gearboxes, the original deadbolt may be slightly larger than the replacement. If the key will not turn or fully engage, lightly file the faceplate deadbolt hole on all 4 sides (around 5 to 10 strokes per side), then apply Vaseline or grease.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How do I know if this gearbox will fit my multipoint lock?
The two critical measurements are the backset (35mm for this part) and the PZ measurement — the distance from the centre of the handle spindle to the centre of the key barrel, which should be 92mm or 70mm. You should also check the lock case length (233mm) and the faceplate screw hole centres (197mm) against your existing gearbox. A dimensional drawing is available in the product gallery to assist with this check.

What is the difference between this gearbox and the Mila 4500?
Although the two gearboxes appear similar at a glance, they are not interchangeable. The linkage points on this gearbox (Part 047201) are in different positions to those on the Mila 4500. Fitting the wrong part will result in incorrect operation. Please use the dimensional drawings in the gallery to confirm which model matches your existing lock before ordering.

Can this twin spindle gearbox replace a single spindle version?
Yes. This twin spindle gearbox is designed to operate both single and twin spindle handle configurations. If you are unsure whether your current lock is single or twin spindle, this is the safer choice — it will work correctly in either case. The single spindle version (JCP part reference M53) is also available separately if you specifically require it.

My faceplate is stamped "Coldseal" or "Swiftframe" — is this still the right part?
Yes. Coldseal and Swiftframe locks were manufactured by Mila, and the door gear is identical across all three brands. Whether your faceplate is stamped Mila, Coldseal, or Swiftframe, this gearbox is the correct replacement part.

Why Choose the Mila Twin Spindle Door Lock Gearbox?

A failing multipoint lock does not always mean a full replacement is necessary — and in most cases, it doesn't. The gearbox is the component most likely to wear or fail, and swapping it out is a repair well within the reach of a competent DIYer. Choosing a genuine Mila part means you are fitting a component built to the same specification as the original, with the same material quality and tolerances. Inferior copies may save a few pounds upfront but frequently fail again — often sooner than expected — leaving you back where you started.

At JCP Hardware, we source our Mila stock from UK supply chains and stock only genuine components. If you have any doubt about whether this is the right part for your lock, get in touch with us before ordering — we have over 30 years of experience helping customers identify the correct replacement parts, and we are happy to help.
